Online Marketing Strategy

online marketing strategy

We are often asked, “what should my online marketing strategy consist of”? Our answer varies depending upon what each client’s goal is. For an online e-commerce company, the main goal is a online purchase. For a brick and mortar business, the goal will be to increase foot traffic. For a services-based company, the goal may be to increase qualified call volumes into their sales team as well as to increase the email inquiries. The first step is to outline who the target demographic is going to be then decide which online marketing strategy should be deployed to meet that company’s objective.

Online Marketing Strategies That Work

There are a lot of online marketing strategies that a company can deploy for targeting their ideal customer. Some strategies work better than others, depending upon which vertical you are in. For instance, Pinterest works better for companies selling a tangible product. Service-based companies have a good success rate with online paid advertising (Google AdWords). While, all companies benefit from having a strong online presence with the help of Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and Social Media Marketing. I will outline some the online marketing strategy options below.

Please consult with a professional online marketing agency prior to attempting to deploy one of these strategies. With more and more businesses going online, competition in these strategies have increased and trying to implement a comprehensive online marketing strategy can cost more money than outsourcing and partnering with a professional online marketing agency.

Online Marketing Strategy Options

(Click on the service options below to find out more information)

  1. Search Engine Optimization
  2. Social Media Marketing
  3. Online Advertising (Google AdWords)
  4. Google Local / Google Places (Bing & Yahoo as well)
  5. Google AdWords Express
  6. Email Marketing
  7. Online Reputation Management
  8. Online Press Releases (Building Brand Recognition)

Online Marketing Strategy Caveat

Before deploying any of these strategies, a professional online marketing agency should first determine that your website will actually convert online visitors into leads or customers. Anyone can generate online web traffic by throwing money at online marketing. But, that does not mean that:

  1. That web traffic is going to be targeted or qualified.
  2. If selling geographically: the traffic may be coming from outside of your selling zone.
  3. The traffic is going to your website then turning around and leaving (the dreaded high bounce rate).
  4. Due to lack of online conversions goals, the visitor is confused and leaves the website, never returning.
  5. Inconsistent messaging, or lack of messaging, causing confusion to the web visitor, again leaving never to return.
  6. Due to confusing navigation, the web visitor gets lost and gets frustrated.

Understanding how online visitors view and go through your website is just as important as launching the right online marketing strategy. Contact the online marketing strategy professionals at Conversion Pipeline to determine which online marketing strategies are best to deploy for your company.

Pinterest Marketing

I have been on Pinterest for several months now. I even wrote an article, Pinterest for your business,  about how you can use Pinterest to promote your product and/or brand. My company is an online marketing agency, not a brick-and-mortar business. We do not sell products, but rather we sell services.  As stated in my earlier article, a business selling a product will benefit over a business selling a service because a product is tangible while a service is not. You can take an image of a product but you really cannot take an image of a service. Pinterest is a “visual” social media network which aims at the visual aspect of a person’s senses. There is not much to read on Pinterest but rather there is a lot to look at visually.

Pinterest Marketing For A Services Company

By now, every business should have a website. On the website, the business probably has images or a design with their product and/or service name and description on their website. By using the Pinterest Bookmarklet, you can pin any image that is on any website. Not only do you get that image uploaded into Pinterest but it will allow users who are interested in that image to click on it and be taken back to your website (drive traffic). Users can “like” and also “repin” that image on their own boards thus giving you additional exposure. You can effectively promote your service/brand and drive traffic to your website which is what marketers want at the end of the day.

Pinterest Marketing

Pinterest = Visual PR Engine

Businesses using Pinterest properly can leverage Pinterest’s visual appeal and have people engage with your posted images which would indirectly promote your brand and services. Think of Pinterest as an alternative visual PR engine. If you are a service-based business, you do not only want to self promote on Pinterest (it is actually discouraged), you can though insert a self promotional pin occasionally. We want to cast a wide reaching net when we look at social media networks. Pinterest is no exception. If you can promote our brand and services/products on Pinterest, it will only add to your company’s credibility, drive traffic to your website and eventually drive qualified leads. As a online Marketer what more do you want? Happy Pinning!

Pinterest For Your Business

If you have been on Facebook these last couple months, it will be no surprise to you the amount of people that are signing up for Pinterest. From a growth standpoint, Pinterest is the hottest social media network, hands down. Shareaholic released a January 2012 Referral Traffic Report stating that Pinterest drives more referral traffic than YouTube, LinkedIn, and Google+ combined. That is a lot of traffic for a fairly new social media website.

Pinterest Marketing

Who Benefits From Pinterest?

Pinterest is generating a lot of traffic for websites but who benefits the most from Pinterest? Business to consumer (B2C) companies benefit more from Pinterest than business to business (B2B) simply because of the visual appeal of Pinterest. If you own or work at a brick-and mortar store or an ecommerce company, listen up! Pinterest is for you! If you are a retailer, then you should be pinning your products online for other people to see them. If you own a jewelry store, take images of your jewelry pieces and pin them online. Pinerest is all about visual appeal. If your image is visually appealing, people will “like” your image or may even “repin” your image thus giving you additional exposure on Pinterest. Pinterest also integrates with Facebook and Twitter so the user can also transfer their posts from Pinterest to other social networks thus giving your products additional exposure.

Pinterest Demographics

Mashable came out with a recent infographic that collected data from comScore and Modea about Pinterest and its unique demographic. Here are some interesting facts:

  • 28% of Pinterest users have a household income of $100,000+ or greater.
  • Average time spent on Pinterest per day is 15.8 minutes vs. 12 minutes spent on Facebook.
  • 50% of Pinterest users have children.
  • Roughly 62% are females and 32% are male.
  • Pinterest total unique visitors has increased over 2,700% since May 2011.
  • The average age of a Pinterest user falls between 24 and 44.

Take Advantage Of Pinterest Now

Business to consumer companies who have a product that can be captured through images need to be on Pinterest. Open up a personal account on Pinterest. Take pictures of your products and post them online with a description of your product. Or if you have images on your website already, you can download Pinterest’s  Bookmarklet and pin something live directly from your website thus creating a back link from Pinterest to your website. If you have any questions about whether or not Pinterest is right for your business then please feel free to contact the Conversion Pipeline Marketing team. Thanks and Happy Pinning!
